City Dog is a punk rock trio storming the punk music scene from Brighton. The trio met in Secondary school and started making music together at 15. The band, inspired by Prodigy, PJ Harvey and Unwound, combines distorted dark noise rock with raw energetic energy.

On August 15th, City Dog released their most recent single, ‘I Might Die’, based on a true story. The single signifies the terrifying event where the band nearly got hit on a motorway whilst on tour on an unreliable tour bus. Their statement about the experience highlights the significance of the event in the development of ‘I Might Die’-

“It was the middle of the night. I remember watching the lights on the dashboard flicker to darkness. We just started rolling. An 18 tonne lorry steamed past us, so close it stripped our paintwork. We all sat in silence for a moment. We stumbled out of the van, kissed the floor and went to the shop for box wine. Writing ‘I Might Die’ was our way of processing that moment.” ~ Deri Bovaird

The song brings the experience to life with the eeriness of the instrumentals accompanied by the spine-chilling vocals in the chorus, wailing “I might die”. The song tells me the story, as the opening of the song starts slower paced and more subtle… Out of nowhere, the heavy chorus quickly hits, to signify the sudden, terrifying close call the band entailed. The lines “I Might Die” feel as though they’re being shouted in the moment as adrenaline hits, and they are faced with blood-curdling fear.

The strong structure and chilling vocals provide energy and excitement to listeners and are a great live song to get the crowds hyped.

With recent appearances supporting the Buzzocks and touring with Hot Wax, the band have been turning tables with their impressive and rageful performances at only 18. They had even been known for “turning the moshpit into an absolute frenzy” (City Dog Spotify) at sold-out gigs.

Last year, the band played a whopping 50 shows and put on a successful UK headline tour- this year, they’ve been on their toes with UK tours and European festivals such as the Burn It Down festival on August 28th alongside exciting punk acts like Bob Vylan.
