SPLIT ENDS DEBUT SINGLE ‘LAZY’
Split Ends debut single ‘Lazy’ dropped August 15th
Split Ends kicks off their first release with the incredibly captivating Lazy. On the 25th of August, the highly anticipated single was released, after the band formed in February this year. Immediately, I loved this song and the energetic, memorable chorus was stuck in my head.
The band’s sour attitude and hostility are foreshadowed by the melancholy baseline, which opens and sets the scene, followed by the striking guitar riff and antagonistic drums. The lyrics, ‘it’s a sickness that goes straight to my bones,’ further reinforces and emphasises the agitated energy. Additionally, Lazy consists of a repetitive song structure, making it super catchy.
Lazy feels very intimate to me, as if Alison’s monotonous tone is a direct reflection and communication of her boredom with the state of music, as well as the current state of society.
Split Ends have been transparent with their disenfranchised and agitated feelings towards the state of the world and the unfair treatment of certain demographics. The agitation they feel is certainly felt and distinguished in this single.
Split Ends’ frustrated vibe perfectly juxtaposes the upbeat energy the music evokes. Lazy feels happy and enthusiastic, yet its message communicates a fully different message through the lyrics 'were too lazy for any of this‘- I think the contrast works perfectly, creating a highly energetic and upbeat song…
Split Ends is unquestionably a band to keep your eyes on in the Brighton area right now… their debut is catchy and definitely brings energy. Their launch went amazingly, and I’m excited to see what’s coming next.
