Beyond The Aux Of Spex Appeal

Spex Appeal are a distinctive and chaotic garage punk rock trio, based in Brighton. The basis of Spex Appeal’s sound was born from the trio jamming to Boredom by the Buzzcocks and New Rose by The Damned when they first got together in 2023.

The Ramones, the Kinks and other ‘strange’ garage bands are groups Spex Appeal have drawn inspiration from. In addition to involving aspects of the blues in their music, they are also aiming to incorporate elements of 60s music into their sound.

Arther, the guitarist/vocalist, expressed that his earliest influence was seeing the Lambrini Girls at Chalk a few years ago. He felt the show had a sense of chaos and danger- which was unique, unlike anything he’s seen before. He thought, “I didn’t even know you could do that”. Spex Appeal had a “full circle moment” when they supported them at chalk around two years after that. Arther stated its “ Funny how things work out.”

The Band, which consists of Kacie, the bassist, Elliot, the drummer and Arther, the guitarist/vocalist, just had a successful gig at the Bees Mouth on the 4th of October- their next gig is on the 15th of October at the Rossi Bar.
